This article reviews the normal anatomy of pulmonary circulation and the pathogenesis of pulmonary embolus. Diagnostic imaging for PE using CT and Nuclear Medicine protocols are discussed. Pulmonary embolism remains on of the most important life-threatening disorders of the lungs. This CE article will give the technologist the tools needed to understand and properly image pulmonary emboli. This article emphasizes CT and V/Q nuclear scan.
